"Hoosier" Daddy??????
Sunday, January 30, 2005, 01:49 PM
The new front runners are on the car... They're a little taller than the old ones (24" vs. 22"). The old ones were really too short, but the price was right. A good friend of mine, Bubby Loggins, gave the Phoenix tires to me. They were brand new, and I was suprised as to how quick they wore out. Nevertheless, here's our agenda:
Sunday,1/30: Get $$$ to Rick Stevens to get ladder bar set-up & wheelie bars ordered
Monday,1/31: Get front end aligned at B'port Tire
Friday, 2/4: Run car in Angleton Dragway season opener for performance baseline prior to suspension mods
Saturday,2/5: Deliver car to Rick Stevens in Santa Fe to begin suspension work
Saturday,2/19 (or close to it): Pick up car from Rick & start KICKING SOME MAJOR BUTTTTT!!
Daannng Joey, it's about time to pressure wash that brick again, huh??!?

I like the way this man thinks......

I like to think we raised our kids right. You know, proper morals, respect for their elders, etc.... but moreover, what's important in life...
We got an e-mail from Travis yesterday that made me gleam with pride over our success of instilling the important things in life to this young man.
Lately, Veronica's been looking at real estate, and I've been seriously looking for an enclosed car trailer --- both seem unaffordable at this time. Once again ol' Travis has come thru with the answer to everything.
When I was younger, I thought it would be cool to live in something other than a conventional house. James Rockford (Rockford Files) lived in a travel trailer on the beach, and Sonny Crockett (Miami Vice)lived on a yacht in a Miami marina. So why couldn't we live in a car hauler? Think of the multi-functionality! Check out the E-bay add and the pic below..... Just kidding Veronica, get off the phone with the attorneys...

Up and Running!
Sunday, January 23, 2005, 12:12 AM
After many frustrating hours of trying to fish an oil pump driveshaft through a small hole, nothing was accomplished. So was the scene last night as Mike was trying to start up the beast. Tonite, I (joey) came home from work and was curious of the problems my dad was having. So I started fishing much like he did. After 45 minutes of fiddling I decided to "C.S.I." it. I took an old block,an old oil pump, and an old oil pump driveshaft and created the same situation. I soon learned what was happening and took care of it. Needless to say, we're back to pissing the neighbors off![ 2 comments ] ( 41 views )
Working my "Hee-Haw" off
Friday, January 21, 2005, 02:42 AM
I took off yesterday, and re-assembled the top of the motor. This took a lot of time (& a lot of beer), and by the time I got to a point to crank the motor, it was late (~9PM). I didn't want to upset the neighbors, so I elected to dog it off, and crank the Pony up this afternoon (1/20). I looked forward to it all day long, as the rest of the day pretty much sucked (6:20AM--spilled coffee on lap-top, no mo computor 'til God knows when??). I got home, put in some coolant, and hit the switch... 180 out...nooo problem, just pull the distributor, rotate the rotor 180 deg's, & wake up the neighbors...WROOOOOONG. It seems the oil pump drive shaft decided to come up w/the distributor (when I pulled it) and for some reason will not find home again in the oil pump. I've worked for hours with tweezers, flashlites, etc, but w/no success. The way I can tell if the drive shaft is correctly back in place is to run an electric drill & a 1/4" socket over it and watch the oil pressure. This was an adventure in itself as I was "home alone", so I stole Veronica's oval mirror out of the foyeur, and set it up inside the car so as to see the dash from the front of the car -- more points made. After HOURS of screwing with this, no success....Veronica even felt so sorry for me that she didn't say anything about her mirror.
BOTTOM LINE: Evidently the oil pump driveshaft has a locator washer that slipped and allowed the drive shaft to come out. The only way to remedy this is to pull the motor, drop the pan, and fix the problem...ohhhhh booooy...
Pulling engines in our race car is similar to driving to the deer lease in Junction.... You don't really look forward to it, but once you get started, you enjoy the trip. I asked my son once after he lost oil pressure & burned up a BRAND NEW motor, "Damn, Joey -- do you realize how much beer it takes to rebuild one of these motors??!??!"
