Coming soon.......
Saturday, February 18, 2006, 12:08 PM
BIG NEWS:
Coming soon.......Our lil' grand daughter will be arriving at any time!
The official due date wasn't 'til (I beieve) Feb 26th, but the doc sez everything's a GO rite now!. We've all been here on pins & needles for the last few days, & I'm sure mom & pop are just as anxious as we are! The way I understand it, the doctor induced labor last Monday (2/13),but the stork still hasn't shown up yet! Should we set out search lites due to the crappy weather??
We're pretty excited around here at WCR!

Not AS big news, but news:
Coming soon......The 'Stang's all dressed up & ready for the party...kinda! There's a few outstanding things left that need to be done for safety compliance, but we're ready to make some motor passes to get the carb jetted right.
The following is what's hangin' out before we can race (on the giggle gas):
Install a "crash frame" around the 1 gal. fuel cell in the engine compartment (Stevens Race Cars).
Install a rupture disc on the nitrous bottle and plumb the discharge thru the floor plan(Wild Cherry Racing).
Install the new fuel pump for the nitrous system and calibrate flows (Wild Cherry Racing).

The following is what's hangin' out after they kick us off the track for going too fast:
Install more roll cage (10-pt cage revision).
Install a window net.
Acquire IHRA/NHRA competition drivers license.
Acquire SFI neck brace, gloves,etc.
Install that damn flexplate shield in the car that I forgot to install (when it was easy).
Get the chassis SFI certified.

I'm sure there's more that I've forgotten to list, but as you can see, our lil' pony has turned into somewhat of a "dynamic" project.

As most already know, Angleton Dragway has been sold and is now "Angleton Raceway Park". I don't know of any official website that exists yet, but I've been getting all substantial (& what I consider credible) info off of www.bracketrash.com (access it from my list of links). According to Jack, "ARP" will have it's grand opening on Saturday, March 4th, and access will be FREE to racers and spectators! You can bet a dime to a dog turd that WCR will be there, saddled up, spurs on, & hopefully with that above list completed.

OoooooK, Jess, ya happy now?

…I haven’t made a post in a while, but this time I have an excuse. Things have been buzzin’ out at the WCR shop. I can sum it up in 3 lil’ words… THE MOTOR’S RUNNING!
That’s rite, I finally received the cam and lifters from Comp Cams.

With these pieces, the motor was assembled, camshaft degree’d, and with the help of Travis Cherry & Bo Lazano, the motor was stabbed Saturday morning. The guys had to leave by late morning, & I went to work cows with a friend & make a season closer dove hunt that evening. On Sunday AM, I continued on the installation details & after the dust settled, we (Veronica & I) lit our lil’ pony off ~ 6 PM. It was a VERY welcome sound!
I’ve got a short flick of it, but I think I’ll re-do it and post it as soon as I can get Travis to walk me thru posting it on this blog. Below are a couple of pix of the motor in the car.

Since these pix were taken, I installed a stainless steel throttle from Lokar. It’s a pretty nice piece. There is one minor setback though…….. It seems that I misread the cam card when degreeing the cam, & set it to 114 degrees instead of 110. After talking with Joey last nite, I decided it best to pull the front of the motor back off and re-degree the #&%*@!! camshaft (STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!!!). Ooooh well, it’s only time, and I got whooooole lot more of that than money these daze.

Stay tuned kids, the short start-up video’s coming soon along with a list of what’s hangin’ out left to do!

Helluva ride
Monday, December 26, 2005, 11:38 AM
Yesterday marked the one year anniversary of our WCR website. There's been a WHOLE lot happen in the past year.

To recap the high spots (& some low ones too), we'll start with Christmas morning of 2004, when it snowed about 8" in Angleton. It was our first white Christmas ever, & Travis & Jonda gave me this site as a Christmas present. Later that day, T&J were out making a snow man and Travis lost his A&M class ring somewhere in the yard. We looked w/metal detectors for weeks with no success and then one night Joey was bringing the empty trash cans in when he kicked it up on the driveway!

Speaking of rings, Joey slipped an engagement ring on Loni's finger in February, which started a major amount of comotion to last thru the year.

The Mustang saw several major milestones thruout 2005 as well. There was a major re-do of the rear suspension. We had the stock stuff changed out w/ladder bars, adjustable coil-over shocks, and wheelie bars.
We then went and played a lil' in the pony until we snapped the factory weld in the axle tube and had to get that repaired. We designed & installed a wing on our pony, and prepared to run in the Fun Ford Weekend event in May. Prior to running in FFW, we went to Dallas w/friends to watch NASCAR, and later to Houston for the O'rielly Super Nats.
Fun Ford Weekend was cool as we attended with our first real sponsorship, and "played with the big boys" in the "Open Comp" class. Most of these guys that run this class travel all over the country in big trucks, and we showed up in our lil' open trailer and qualified 8th in a sixteen car class! The bad thing was, Joey red-lit in the first round.
What came next was a visit from our daughter Beth, who's attending post grad school in NY,NY ( and about to finish in May,'06).
Later in May, I got to take Veronica down the track for a ride. As she was strapped in w/a borrowed helmet & fire jacket, we ran a 6.67 @ 104 mph. This created "quite a memory" (scared the poop outta her) for her (us). A couple of Friday nites and several passes later, I noticed a subtle drop in oil pressure, and decided to investigate on Memorial weekend.... this was one of those low spots -- cracked block. We decided the rebuild would be a "dialed up" one, which meant it would be a timely & costly one as well. About this same time, Polaris went to puppy heaven (still ANOTHER low spot)....but putting us right back on top, we found out that we were gonna be grandparents! T&J are giving us a lil' granddaughter in late February!

Back to the rebuild, it's STILL ongoing, AND ahead of schedule;)... Before the rebuild however, a $30K home remodeling project was to happen, and it did....sounded simple, right? Wrong.........

Somewhere along that time, Joey graduated from UTI w/top honors and landed a job in Arlington w/Penske Trucking. Beth got to come home again to attend the graduation ceremonies. It's always good when she's able to come home. I miss her.

Then there was a wedding... Joey & Loni had a garden wedding in Galveston, a Carribean Cruise honeymoon, and a back yard/Astros World Series reception in our back yard. As a bonus, Beth came down for the third time this year for the wedding. The kids now reside in Arlington w/thier new Cocker Spaniel puppy, Sadie.

That brings us to Christmas... both boys & brides came down and we had an enjoyable evening together on the 22nd.
Joey & I went deer hunting that morning, and he shot a real nice buck!
Beth couldn't make it home this year, but we got to visit with her Christmas morning via Jonda's speaker-phone on her blackberry (don't ask me what that is, but it worked & I'm happy). All & all, we had a very nice Christmas.

Sooooo...the house is finished, the motor's ALMOST finished, and that grandbaby's on the way....I'm sure I've forgotten something, but it's been one helluva ride in 2005!

Happy Holidays to you & yours from WILD CHERRY RACING! Come see us soon!
