A dog that could actually smile at you....

A member of our family was laid to rest yesterday. Polaris, our yellow Labrador Retriever was euthanized after discovering some serious non-reversible health issues. She was 12 years old.
Polaris was born June 13th, 1993. As she looked like a miniature Polar Bear as a puppy, we named her “Polaris”. She had a pedigree as long as my leg, and she gave birth to two litters of fine puppies. When she was pregnant with the second litter, Joey was about to turn 16 years old (driving age). We told him that he needed to take extra special care of her and the puppies, because whatever the amount of money was made off the puppy sales determined what type of vehicle would be purchased for his first car. She gave birth to nine pups, and the proceeds purchased a 1985 Ford Mustang GT…….Yes, the very same Mustang that evolved into the car that we race today. That was her contribution to Wild Cherry Racing.

Rest in peace, girl.

Too much time on his hands.....

Some folks take up wood carving, while others refinish antique furniture, or collect coins. The list of hobbies that people enloy is endless.I was reading the HOTRODGOSSIP.COM website this afternoon, and stumbled across a really cool website:
http://weberprecision.com
This guy's hobby is manufacturing (literally) and building small scale replica motors that actually run. With a lathe and a milling machine, he machined out every piece and put together an all aluminum blown alchohol V-8 engine. He even built the blower! There's even a video of the 25 lb. engine running. Check it out... it's pretty cool.
To do something like this takes a lot of know-how,
and a WHOLE LOT of patience. Things like this have close tolerances and need to be precision machined.
I wish I had the knowledge and moreover the PATIENCE to do something like this........Bottom line, I just wish I had that much time on my hands.

Dark Day at WCR
Wednesday, June 1, 2005, 12:14 PM
I got home from work yesterday, changed clothes, and set out to look a little closer at our tear-down project.
It looks like we're gonna be down a while, as my suspicions about the cam bearing failure were confirmed..... CRACKED BLOCK. The #4 main bearing web is cracked all the way to the bottom of #7 cylinder. Stock Ford blocks are notorious for this, especially when you push the envelope on HP.
We have another stock block, but we're gonna have a lil' pow-wow at WCR world headquarters to discuss our options. Whatever we do, we're gonna do it right, and that may mean being off the track for an extended period of time, until adequate funding is available. At the very least, our "CFO" has put her foot down on getting our home remodeling project finished before the engine cranks again..........and rightly so. Contrary to how she sounds, Veronica's been real good about loosening those purse strings, especially when she's been sweet-talked enuff.
I guess the next few blogs will be about french doors & granite countertops ........bleeecchh!

There's yur problem...

...Pulled the motor out of the car yesterday. At this point we're in the parts clean-up mode, but we did find our problem. We spun 2 cam bearings. The block doesn't appear damaged and neither does the camshaft, but it's all going under the microscope starting this evening.
Additionally, we spent a lil' $$ yesterday. There will be a new & improved pony hit the track when the motor goes back in, but we're keeping the details behind closed doors for a while on this one.
I'll put it this way... there will be "N/T" on the windshield for a couple of passes.

Whats a WOOKIE???
Thursday, May 26, 2005, 10:22 PM
We've been so busy, that I haven't made a post lately... Last weekend was a good one, even with all that bad luck at the track. What made it great was that we got to see our daughter Beth, who's been attending Parsons University in NYC, chasing down her MFA in computer graphics.
The last time we got to see each other was 19 months ago when our oldest son Travis got married.
The weekend started Friday nite, as we watched the new Star Wars movie. On Saturday, Beth went to her grandparents (my ex-in-laws) golden wedding anniversary (Congrats, Johnye & Tommy Slaughter!), and we went to ADW for the "heat-fest". On Sunday, we all loaded up and spent the day in Galveston (Strand, Sea Wall, Willie Gee's, etc.). We had a lotta fun & a lotta laffs, as we enjoyed our time with her. She's got one more year of school left, and maybe then we can see each other more. Below is Beth & I on one of those short sea wall jetties.
Oh yeah, we got the car running againTuesday evening. We had to replace the sticking float valve.
Back to the Star Wars movie... I'm not a big Star Wars addict, but I've watched most of them and they were pretty entertaining. The one we watched Friday was dissapointing. There was too much of that little green guy fighting big guys with a light sabre. I heard something on the radio the other morning.... do you know what a WOOKIE is?...
A WOOKIE is what Elmer Fudd calls a first year athlete... I crack myself up.
